Emmy is a mutual friend to many of my good friends, including my old roomie Jessie Lee, therefore I came highly recommended to her, and she came highly recommended to me, and finally, she took the trip from Philly up to the studio for a full day shoot.
We were shooting for a slew of my projects, the fine art project, the goth/industrial fashion project, the top secret project, the industrial nude project and some other nifty stuff as well.
We started in studio shooting the Industrial stuff, but the wardrobe ended up being more of a lingerie type of thing. The lighting really brought out the tattoo work she had, i also dodged and burned just a little to bring out the highlights in her hair a bit in the top image, and I thought the bottom image was really innocent/cutsie so i figured id post that one as well (see two images below)
These are shot with split light, 2 3x4 profoto soft boxes (compact 300s) at 100% - F18 at a 125th or 160th ISO 120
After shooting on white we flipped it out to black for the fine art project, which is all shot the same so all the images I shoot for it match, however I really liked the very last shot we got out of the entire set which is below.
Its shot with two soft boxes split (3x4) about 2-3 feet behind the model - they are basically used to give the model very light, very soft lighting as contour lines.
Shot F22 - 160th at ISO100
Next we ventured around the building which is an awesome creepy old mill building,
We started by one of the massive windows - which in the end - i had to shop out the reflection of the umbrella in the window which kinda sucked, but whatever, is what it is!
This is shot with two cold tone umbrellas - dynalite jackrabbits - uni300s - F22 - at a 30th ISO400
Next we went to the basement and shot against a creepy door that seems to go nowhere, I've shot it a few times so I figured I would shoot it with the door closed this time just so its a little different
The lighting is two umbrellas (one model right - one model left) but I shot at an extreme angle (as you can see) in the last shot we did, and we both ended up liking this shot alot
The lights were much closer together so I downed the lighting to about 1/4th, dropped to F18 - shot at a 10th - ISO400
One thing thats newer to the studio are the freezer curtains which they installed to keep the heat in the basement. Ive never used them for a shoot so we experimented a bit.
The shots that came out the best were when Emmy split the curtains and peeked through them (sounds dirty right? - its not, promise) I used one bare light pointed toward the ground so there was a bit of depth behind her and it would case a cool shadow - and an umbrella to the right of the curtains.
If I could do it over again, id probably use a second umbrella to the left as well, but then again, maybe that would refelect even more and cause more of a white reflection in the plastic...
anyhoo i bumped up the bare bulb to 1/2 and used the umbrella at 1/4th or so, shot it at F18 at a fulls econd which gave too much blur, then jumped that up to a 10th, 15th, and 20th to kill the blur - here are the two images I liked best.
